Welcome to the first edition of The Calibrander!
This is a periodic review of all things to do with assessment and learning technology, and, of course, what we’re up to here at Calibrand.
Over the last month or so we seem to have had a Ryder Cup theme.
Firstly we had the pleasure of being at the Institute of Financial Planning Annual Conference, which took place at Celtic Manor the week before the Ryder Cup.
The Calibrander’s golf handicap wasn’t unduly affected (we only got on the driving range apparently some real golfers needed the proper course), the hot topic in the conference was the Retail Distribution Review (RDR).
As you may know Calibrand, together with SQA, offers the Diploma in Professional Financial Advice which certifies Financial Advisers to reach the FSA’s RDR qualification requirements. A practising adviser’s minimum level of qualification has to increase to an RDR compliant, Diploma level qualification by the end of 2012, so don’t delay!
Secondly, while the Ryder Cup was taking place yours truly managed to visit the second European Association of Test Publishers conference, near Barcelona.
The Calibrander managed to dodge the Spanish General Strike to see Certiport and Calibrand deliver a joint presentation on the Myth and Reality of Professional Certification as it related to the RDR project. The weather was wonderful over the whole weekend in sharp contrast to the pictures from Newport, South Wales.
