"Medical Revalidation,

Since 2001, the Government has proposed the introduction of a medical revalidation which is now imminent; as of Autumn 2009 doctors must be able to demonstrate that they remain up to date and fit to practise (www.gmc-uk.org).

The methods of revalidation have been outlined in the 'Trust, Assurance and Safety' white paper, written by the Secretary of State for Health in 2007.

The key issues noted in the white paper include:

The addition of extra responsibilities
An inadequate ability to capture quantitative and intangible evidence
Being sufficiently flexible to cope with professional diversity
