CGNU Case Study

The Problem

The merger between CGU and Norwich Union in May 2000 not only created the UK's largest insurance group, but also meant that the entire combined mortgage and insurance sales force had to be re-licensed to ensure compliance with current FSA regulations.

The date for full re-licensing ( 'L-Day' ) was set for early September 2000. Irene Kinsella, Training Manager at CGNU and the rest of the training department recognised that they needed to find a replacement for their existing testing system to meet the demanding re-licensing requirements.

After evaluating a range of products from different vendors, Irene decided that Calibrand Test was the best solution to meet the needs of the new organisation.

How we helped

After being awarded the contract and being given the go-ahead in early July 2000, Calibrand succeeded in fully installing the Calibrand Test solution in less than 6 weeks. With L-day rapidly approaching, Calibrand Test was thoroughly put through its paces during mid-August.

By early September the CGU/Norwich Union merger was almost complete. The training department in Stevenage used Calibrand Test to produce and mark over 3000 tests for the pension and mortgage sales advisors of the newly formed Norwich Union Life.

Working together

As with all projects of this size, there were some practical issues which arose during implementation, but the collaborative working relationship between CGNU and Calibrand meant that all problems were resolved quickly.

The advanced flexibility and functionality of Calibrand Test enabled Calibrand to deliver to CGNU's complex business requirements and demanding timescales on schedule.

"As system implementation projects go this really couldn't have gone better..... the project managers and their teams had the technical and business skills to make the system work. And they did" - Irene Kinsella (Training Manager, Norwich Union Life)
